For most of us, the traditional vision of Lancaster County is dominated by rolling farmlands. Take

a closer look at the northeastern corner of the county, however, and you'll see it reveals a different

story. Here, in a portion of the federally recognized Pennsylvania Highlands, are the Welsh

Mountains - some of the highest and most deeply forested acres in the entire county.

The Lancaster County Conservancy has been working since 2004 with numerous partners to protect what will be named the Welsh Mountain Nature Preserve - which in conjuction with the adjacent Money Rocks County Park will be one of the largest contiguous pieces of protected forested land in the county - a truly unique wildlife habitat that also protects our water and air quality, and provides unmatched opportunities for public recreation.

Currently, we have protected 469 of a possible 873 acres. We need the support of the whole community - and you - to help us complete the final phase of this valuable land protection project.

The closing date to purchase this land is May 15, 2011
