Tree Tubing and Staking

Reed Run Nature Preserve

Sunday, April 11th

9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Come out and join us in our efforts to regenerate the forest at Reed Run. This is a seasonal continuation project from last fall. We will be finishing restaking and tubing our young trees in order to prevent over browsing from white-tailed deer and ensure protection against weather. We will be meeting in the area around the Reed Run parking lot at 9:00 am and work until around 3:00 pm. You are welcome to attend either an am or pm session or stay the entire day and bring along your own lunch as lunch will not be provided. Even though the temperature might still be cool that day make sure you bring plenty to drink and sun block. You are also welcome to bring your own mallets and gloves. The conservancy will provide additional tools and materials. Please contact Christian Loch at cl3569@ship.edu if you will be attending.

American Chestnut Seed Planting

House Rock Nature Preserve

Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25

In partnership with the PA chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation (www.patacf.org), the Conservancy is restoring several acres of the House Rock Preserve by planting thousands of chestnut seeds and conifer seedlings. Meet at the Conservancy at 117 South West End Avenue in downtown Lancaster at 8:30 am or at the House Rock Preserve parking lot at 9:00 am. Planting will take place until 4:00 pm each day, with a break at 12 noon at which time lunch will be provided. Feel free to come help out all day, or for just the morning or the afternoon shift. Please dress appropriately, plan to get dirty, and bring plenty to drink. The conservancy will be providing tools and gloves, but feel free to bring along your own gloves, shovels, or mallets. This will be the Lancaster Conservancy's Earth Day Volunteer opportunity, so make the most of it by encouraging your friends and family to tag along! Please contact Christian Loch ahead of time if you will be attending or have any questions at cl3569@ship.edu.

This planting is made possible in part by the generous support of Armstrong World Industries. For more information on Armstrong’s reforestation efforts, please visit www.armstrong.com/corporate/forest-management.html.
