Saturday, March 23 2019 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Both 9am and 1pm Clean-Ups have been canceled due to conditions.
The Lancaster Conservancy is seeking volunteers, 18 years and older, to help with a massive cleanup effort along a 3-mile stretch of floodplain on our 279 acre Otter Creek Nature Preserve in York County. A myriad of trash and hazardous debris, including: old trailers, tires, furniture, and plastics litter both sides of the floodplain along Otter Creek, which flows directly into the Susquehanna River.
How To Get Involved With The Cleanup:
Volunteers MUST SIGN UP beforehand and ARRIVE ON TIME. We have firm arrival times, due to the location of the work site. Volunteering at Otter Creek will involve a 1 – 2 mile hike, led by Conservancy staff, to the work site.
Due to the travel distance we are unable to accommodate late arrivals. If you sign up for the morning slot, we will be departing the parking area at 9 am sharp. If you sign up for the afternoon slot, we will again leave the parking area at 1 pm sharp. We cannot accommodate late arrivals. We appreciate your understanding.
After you sign up, you will receive an email with directions to the parking area, a volunteer waiver form and additional instructions on what to expect day of.
Otter Creek Nature Preserve – York County – Volunteer Work Day
- Saturday, March 23rd: 9am – 12pm and 1pm – 4pm
Due to trail and preserve conditions along the creek we are seeking volunteers age 18 and older. Volunteers will focus on cleaning up trash and debris such as plastics and metal objects along the floodplain. Please bring your own gloves, a water bottle, a packed lunch if you are staying through the day; and hand pruners or loppers in the event trash is trapped behind debris. Dress for weather conditions and use precaution as trails may be slippery or strewn with hidden debris this time of year.
Extra gloves, trash bags, and limited supplies will be available for use. Water and refreshments will be provided. Join us for as little or as long as you like.
