Workshop: Donegal Highlands Ash Tree Salvage

Sunday, March 31 2019 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

The Lancaster Conservancy is initiating a selective ash tree timber harvest on our Donegal Highlands Nature Preserve in 2019. This is our first such harvest and we are working closely with forestry professionals to ensure that best management practices are followed. This harvest is part of a larger vision to manage the landscape more sustainably. Our goal is to extract value from a stand of dead and dying trees impacted by the emerald ash borer, an exotic pest that has decimated the region’s ash tree population, and maintain the long term health of the forest.

Ryan Davis, the Chesapeake Forests Program Manager, will be giving an afternoon talk and hiking tour of the Donegal Highlands Nature Preserve. This will be the first-ever official event at Old Trolley Line Park.
