Join the Lancaster Conservancy’s Interpretive Ranger Doug Musselman on an educational hike to learn about the native wildflowers and other highlights of Shenks Ferry!

Shenks Ferry Wildflower Preserve is renowned as one of the most impressive wildflower sanctuaries in the eastern United States. Tucked into the river hills of southern Lancaster County, over 70 species of wildflowers and 50 species of birds make their home in this sheltered ravine cut by Grubb Creek.

What to Expect

Registration is required to attend this event. Hikers will meet and sign a waiver at the preserve Kiosk by the new parking area prior to the gate on Green Hill Road.

The hike will be approximately 1 mile on a relatively smooth and level trail.

We will be outside for the duration of our walk, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes, clothing appropriate for the weather, and that you bring a reusable water bottle. A port-a-john will be available in the parking area at the start and end of our walk.

Directions

Hikers should access the preserve from the North on Green Hill Road. Do not attempt to drive through the south side of Green Hill Road to the back side of the preserve. The Road there is closed. Please also note that road conditions can be hazardous and muddy in wet weather.

Because of the popularity of this preserve, we recommend car pooling if possible.

Weather

Should the forecast call for weather conditions that would make the hike unsafe, hikers will be notified of a cancellation and refunded 24 hours prior to the event.
