It has been 50 years since the Clean Water Act was passed, and the quality of our rivers and streams has improved, but continue to face significant challenges, and freshwater life remains some of the most imperiled on the planet. In this Nature Hour we will explore the state of our rivers and streams from two perspectives: First Jeremy Monroe, Director of Freshwaters Illustrated, an organization dedicated to raising public awareness about the life, study and conservation of freshwater ecosystems through immersive visual media and stories. Jeremy has snorkeled and filmed rivers across North America and will share video clips to explain what he has seen over the last 20 years. Ted Evgeniadis is the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper and will bring a local perspective to the conversation.

Your Presenters

Ted Evgeniadis is the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper. In this role, Ted leads the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association, and actively investigates reports of pollution. His vigilance has resulted in multiple lawsuits against businesses that violated state and federal clean water laws including the largest settlement against a coal fired power plant in the history of Pennsylvania.

Jeremy Monroe is the founder and Director of Freshwaters Illustrated, and organization dedicated to raising public awareness about the life, study and conservation of freshwater ecosystems through immersive visual media and stories. Jeremy started Freshwaters Illustrated to help create mor immersive imagery and stories that carry the beauty, diversity and value of freshwater ecosystems. He sees his job as helping to reconnect people to the intricacy wonder and needs of rivers, lakes and wetlands. Jeremy’s background is in aquatic ecology which helps him access stories that celebrate the vibrance and value of freshwater life. Jeremy has degrees in aquatic ecology and fishery biology from Colorado State University.
