Ecology and Management
Pequea is managed for its habitat as being of highest and best use.
Pequea Nature Preserve includes a small parcel within the village of Pequea as well as a larger forested parcel connecting the village of Pequea to Shenks Ferry Wildflower Preserve. The forested parcel highlights a variety of native species including oaks, blueberries, ferns and other acidic loving plants on scenic wooded slopes.
Pequea overlooks Lake Aldred of the Susquehanna River.
This preserve was acquired as part of a nationally recognized landscape protection project known as the PPL Project. Funds for that Project were provided by the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, The Conservation Fund, Lancaster County, York County, PPL, Talen Energy, and Brookfield Renewable. The tracts that form the Pequea North Nature Preserve were donated by PPL, Talen Energy, and Brookfield Renewable.
