Explore Shenks Ferry Wildflower Preserve, a world-renowned site for spring ephemeral wildflowers, on this interpretive hike.

Shenks Ferry Wildflower Preserve is a world-renowned site for spring ephemeral wildflowers. The preserve contains 70 species of wildflower, many of which bloom in early spring before the forest canopy leafs out as part of their strategy to capitalize on sunlight availability. They do all of their growing and reproduction during the time when sunlight reaches the forest floor. This hike will explore the incredible beauty of Shenks Ferry. Participants will learn to identify common spring ephemeral wildflowers and explore their fascinating ecology.

What to Expect: This will be a 1.5 mile out and back hike on a gravel and dirt trail. The trail surface is mostly smooth, but there are a few short rocky sections. There is a slight incline with an estimated 100 foot rise in elevation. This event is for ages 8 and up. Participants under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Restroom is available on site.

What to Bring: Participants should dress for the weather, wear comfortable footwear and bring drinking water.

Refund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket, refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event.

Cancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event. If the Conservancy reschedules the event, attendees will be emailed and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date. If the Conservancy cancels the event, attendees will be notified via email when possible and refunded.
